01 / FAQ

A few useful answers.

Do I need touring equipment?

We work with a local gear shop for touring and avalanche gear rental.

When should I come and is powder guaranteed?

The best timing depends on your priorities. Use the season guide to compare early winter, midwinter and the longer days later in the season. We guarantee we can find powder for your group through touring and snowmobile access.

Can I choose a small village guesthouse?

Hemu has village wooden-house stays as well as service-area and resort hotels. Tell us whether you prioritise village atmosphere, comfort or proximity to the lifts. Tell us your preferences for room size, private bathrooms, breakfast and space for drying equipment, and we can recommend the right place for you.

What can we do on a rest day?

Take a winter walk, photograph the wooden houses and surrounding mountains, or settle into a village café. A horse-drawn sleigh ride or an arranged meal with a local family can add another perspective on village life. Confirm arrangements and availability for activities that involve a host or operator.

How are guiding and transfers priced?

Ask for an itemised trip quote rather than assuming a daily guiding fee covers everything. The proposal should explain transfer-day charges, accommodation, vehicles and drivers, lift passes, meals and any separately operated activities, with inclusions and exclusions clearly stated.

What avalanche information and rescue support are available?

The local avalanche initiative is run by volunteers and local riders. Its information should not be presented as an official forecast or a substitute for qualified on-site assessment.

We regularly assess the conditions ourselves for the routes we offer.
